Mortgage rates are all over the place, but they are at a higher than they have been for the last few years due to rising mortgage rates. If you are looking to buy a house right now, this isn\u2019t something that you want to deal with, but it is a reality. Unless you are planning to wait for the next time mortgage rates go down, you need to start looking for ways to mitigate the impact that they have on you and your finances.<\/span><\/p>\n

What You Can Do About Rising Mortgage Rates: Maintain a Good Credit Score<\/b><\/h2>\n

Your credit score has a huge impact on your mortgage interest rate. Your credit score is essentially a measure of the risk that you pose in being able to repay any loan you receive. A higher credit score means that you pose less risk.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This means you are likely to get a lower interest rate than someone with a lower credit score. Luckily, your credit score is entirely under your control. Making payments on time, having a variety of accounts, the length of your credit history, the percentage of credit used, and whether you have any new accounts are <\/span>all factors that affect your credit score<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Buy Properties with Cash<\/b><\/h2>\n

Mortgage rates only apply to you if you have to have a mortgage, so <\/span>if you can pay cash<\/span><\/a>, you can avoid the need to deal with mortgage rates altogether. This can be a little difficult if you don\u2019t have the money saved up when you start looking, but it isn\u2019t completely impossible.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If you are selling your old home and moving, you can use the profits from the sale to pay for your new home. Sellers are more likely to choose your offer if you\u2019re paying in cash. This is because they want to walk away with the cash in hand, and they don\u2019t have to worry about your financing falling through at the last minute.<\/span><\/p>\n

What You Can Do About Rising Mortgage Rates: Negotiate with Lenders<\/b><\/h2>\n

Just because you have one mortgage offer on the table doesn\u2019t mean you have to accept that. Make sure you <\/span>do some shopping around<\/span><\/a> to find the best rate. Once you have that, you can go back to the other lenders and let them know what their competition is offering and see if they are willing to match it. Continue going around in that circle, seeing who can give you the best offer, until you have something you want or you have the best offer you can get.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mortgage rates may be high, but that doesn\u2019t mean that they should keep you from buying your dream home. There are plenty of things that you can do to lower them or avoid them altogether. It does require a little research, but it is well worth your time.<\/span><\/p>\n
